Shout it out: PUMPKINS!

I love, Love, LOVE Pumpkins!
I'm not sure why.  Maybe it's all the variations in colors, shapes, sizes, and textures.  Maybe it's because they represent the change of seasons to fall. I even just like to say the word "Pumpkins!"  Put it all together, it just makes me feel giddy.  I wanted a Pumpkins sign that would shout it out.  I looked for a few years but couldn't find just the right one. (At least not at a price I was willing to pay.)  So I just made it myself.

Here's how easy it was:

Cut a board to the size you want and stain or paint it the color you want.  I used a technique I loosely refer to as "whitewashing" or "pickling" by adding some water to white paint. The watered-down coat of paint allows the wood grain to show through.

Type the word on a computer. Print it out, enlarging it on a printer to the size you want.  Using a #2 pencil, rub the back side of the print-out covering each letter with lead.  Tape the print-out to the board. Use the point of the pencil to trace the outline of the letters.  The pressure will transfer the letters through the lead onto the board.  Fill in the letters with craft paint.

Cut scraps of weathered wood (or painted wood, if desired) to fit as a frame around the painted board. Nail the frame to the board.  Tack a picture hanger to the back side of the framed board to hang it on the wall.

I just love Pumpkins!  And, actually, I don't believe I've ever met anyone who doesn't. They sort of bring out the kids in us!
