Candy Apple Spice Mix for Cider or Tea

Does the cold weather put you in the mood for hot tea or cider?  Here is a spice mix you can add to your hot drinks to give them a burst of flavor and perhaps even give yourself some added health benefits for the cold and flu season.

This recipe calls for cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg. You may want to come up with your own variations, such as anise, fennel, or ginger.

2 cups sugar
1 pkg red hot candies
3 tablespoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons allspice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Mix all ingredients together.  Stir 2 teaspoons of spice mix into a cup of hot tea or cider.  To make a large quantity, add all of the mix to 1 gallon of tea or cider and heat until the candies have melted.

Scooped into a jar, tied with a ribbon, an ornament and a tag, this spice mix makes a special gift.

Spices are said to have a wide variety of benefits, such as reducing pain, easing digestion, boosting the immune system, relaxing muscles, improving brain function, and increasing circulation.  Keep in mind, however, that with this recipe you're consuming extra sugar.  Always consult your doctor if you're using spices as a natural remedy for ailments.
