Maple Grove Chickie-Babes are Meyer Models

Meyer Hatchery Catalog
I am so eggcited (tickled pink, actually) that the Maple Grove Chickie-Babes are models for the Meyer Hatchery Catalog.  The photo above shows two of our Chickies representing their breeds in the new catalog: "Henny Ha-Ha," our New Hampshire Red and "Aussie Umbra," our Black Australorp.
(Be sure to check out the Meyer website to see more of our Chickie-Babes modeling their good looks.)

While we don't "show" our chickens, they certainly are beautiful models.  I attribute their exceptional good looks, temperaments and health to a few things.  First of all, they are Meyer girls after all. They were bred and hatched at the Meyer Hatchery, so they got off to a super start.  They arrived at our house in great health at one day old. (Read about brooding chickens and see photos of the Chickie-Babes growing up.)

Second, the Chickie-Babes are free-rangers.  There is nothing more natural or better for chickens than being able to develop their foraging skills and instinctive behaviors in the great outdoors. Not everyone who keeps chickens has an environment that is conducive to free-ranging. The area may be too small with close neighbors, or it may be a high-risk area for predator attacks. We are blessed to be in a setting where free-ranging is not only possible but is the ideal option for our chickens.  Free-ranging provides the best possible nutrition . . . a diet that is prime for good health, positive dispositions, and bright colors. (Read about how and why we free-range our chickens.)

Third, our Chickie-Babes receive very good care and attention. While most of their diet consists of what they find in nature, we provide them with a supplement of quality layer feed, fresh water, and a clean and safe hen house in which to nest and roost.  (Read more about our hen house design and  chicken keeping practices.)

The photos are the proof. Happy, Healthy Maple Grove Chickie-Babes!  Happy, Healthy Meyer Girls! Thank you Meyer Hatchery for your commitment to breeding and hatching healthy chicks and for choosing the Chickie-Babes to represent their breeds in your catalog.  And good for you, Chickie-Babes . . . take a bow!
